Pimples in the ear are not only annoying, but they can also be painful. We will give you tips on suitable household remedies and prevention.
Pimples in the ear - causes
If the pores are blocked, pimples can develop - even in the ear. The reason for this can be earwax (also: cerumen), for example, which does not drain off properly. Usually, our ears clean themselves thanks to earwax because dead skin cells, dirt, and bacteria stick to it. And are then transported outwards with the wax. If this mechanism is disturbed by e.g., lousy hygiene or too much lard is produced, it can clog the pores. However, if a hair follicle has become inflamed, it is not a pimple but a boil. This should definitely be treated by a specialist.

Pimples in the ear - symptoms
Pimples in the ear can cause pain, depending on their size, either only selectively or affecting the entire ear. Also, the skin around the spot can become inflamed, so the ear may feel congested.

Pimples in the ear - what to do?
A pimple in the ear can be disturbing, whether for aesthetic reasons or because it hurts. But to get rid of the spot, you should refrain from squeezing. Especially if the pimple is too deep in the ear. If there are pimples in the auricle or behind the ear, home remedies like tea tree oil can help. Tea tree oil has a disinfecting and drying effect. Put some of it on a cotton swab and lightly dab the pimple with it. Also, here applies: not if the spot is in the auditory canal. Make sure that none of the oil flows into the ear canal. In high concentrations, it can cause skin irritation, but you can dilute the tea tree oil with water. An alternative is a pulling ointment. It accelerates the process of maturing and emptying in case of an abscess or boil on the outside of the ear. It also has an anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect. And healing ointments with zinc also support skin regeneration.

Pimples in the earthen to the specialist
For small, less painful pimples, you can try treatment with home remedies. If the abscess is too deep in the ear or in the ear canal, leave it alone and go to an ENT specialist. The specialist will choose the right method of treatment, possibly anti-inflammatory ointments will be prescribed. Sometimes a boil must be removed surgically.

Preventing pimples in the ear
Incorrect or inadequate hygiene can promote pimples in the ear. Follow these tips to better prevent spots in the ear.

Clean your ears: Do not use cotton swabs! Gently wipe the auricle with a damp cloth (see here for more tips on cleaning your ears). The ear canal naturally cleans itself.
If you have problems with too much earwax, regular visits to the doctor will help you to get a professional cleaning of your ears.
Change earplugs: If you use earplugs, you should also clean or replace them.
Hygiene of everyday objects: Smartphone & Co. are part of our daily life. However, they also need to be cleaned. So be sure to clean your mobile/telephone, in-ear headphones, etc. regularly.
